Romami is the story of a traumatized girl, Mugabekazi, and her mother, who survived the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi together after losing their entire family, including Mugabekazi's young brother, who was killed in a church. Living in an abandoned warehouse, Mugabekazi's mother copes only through prayer — a devotion Mugabekazi finds increasingly hard to bear, until she quietly burns her mother's rosary.
